With another home win under our belts and as we prepare to face Bristol City on the road on Friday, there are a few vital things that can be learned from the 4-1 win at Wigan Athletic in the EFL Cup yesterday.
There’s something in the water at Bodymoor Heath.
The impression that the youngsters have made in and around the first team this season has been nothing short of spectacular and it shows that the academy and scouting staff are certainly doing something right.
Adomah’s going to live long in the memories of Villa fans.
Whilst it wasn’t quite as spectacular as Dalian Atkinson’s odd celebration, it certainly captivated many a fan. In the years to come, Adomah will be remembered for his acrobatic and unusual celebration.
O’Hare is laying foundations.
The young Callum O’Hare is consistently performing well whenever he’s been played and he’s laying the foundations for a starting position in the league if he continues to impress. Picking up Bree’s boot and chasing him down the line at the speed of light was a sight to see too.
There’s some competition for places going on.
Both Birkir Bjarnason and Albert Adomah performed well at Wigan, whilst Andre Green and Ahmed Elmohamady performed well against Norwich on the weekend. The competition for places in the first eleven can only benefit everyone involved, and the future is looking good for all of these players.
Scott Hogan looks like the player we thought we’d bought.
Three goals in two cup games that could have been many more. It’s exciting to see and we can only hope he’ll show the same form in the League. We’d like to see him up front with Davis.
