Sam Johnstone: 8/10
Kept us in the game. Made a few great saves in both halves denying Nugent early, but
couldn’t do anything about the opening goal by ex Villa striker Andreas Weimann. Also a
good save in the second half off Johnson’s header but couldn’t do enough to keep out the
second goal in stoppage time.

Neil Taylor 6/10
Made a great tackle early on in the first half to put Nugent off. Put in a few nice crosses. Not a stand out performance but a decent game for Taylor.

James Chester 7/10
Another great captained performance by the centre back. Didn’t let the strikers through often and was the heart of our defence.

Mile Jedinak 6/10
Was good in the air and won a lot of headers but a few passes went astray and were quite weak. Still trying to get 100% fit as this was his first full game this season.

Ahmed Elmohamady 6/10
First time back in the starting XI for a while and was average. Like Taylor he too put some nice crosses into the box but nobody really could get on the end of them.

Conor Hourihane 6/10
Got stuck in and stayed strong in the middle of the park. Had an effort at the brink of half
time but was saved relatively comfortably by Carson. When going forwards he looks dangerous but stayed more on the defensive end.

Robert Snodgrass 5/10
Played okay on the right again. Got around the Derby defenders well with some nice
touches. But some of his crosses let him down.

Glenn Whelan 4/10
Disappointing . Made a very silly error for the opener gifting the hosts a goal. Always tries to get himself about in the middle of the park but was substituted in the second half for Scott Hogan.

Jack Grealish 7/10
Was great seeing Jack start. Worked hard trying to push the team forward. Creating a lot of chances attacking wise but couldn’t get the goal we wanted. His first start this season.

Albert Adomah 6/10
Couldn’t really get much going. Lack of service. Looked lively in the second half as Villa tried to make a breakthrough.

Josh Onomah 5/10
Looked confused up top on his own. Not his general position. Moved back into midfield in the second half but still didn’t do much.

Substitutions

Scott Hogan 5/10
Had a header that flashed wide. But other than this he didn’t get any service.

Gabriel Agbonlahor 5/10
Didn’t do anything and hardly got a touch of the ball.
