Sam Johnstone – 6/10
Couldn’t do much to keep out either of the goals. The defence let him down again with a goalmouth scramble on the second goal, which gave the hosts all 3 points.
Neil Taylor – 5/10
Didn’t really do much attacking wise, but defensively he was solid, making a few tackles and interventions.
James Chester – 6/10
Led the team well again and was solid and strong for the whole game, but others around him struggled and cost us.
Tommy Elphick – 5/10
Looked strong throughout the game, although he gifted the Bees a chance in the second half and Elphick was lucky they didn’t score from it. Made a few mistakes, but it was his first league start since last season and we may see him start again on Saturday.
Alan Hutton – 5/10
Didn’t get much joy attacking down the right hand side. Always works his socks off and had a real battle with Sergi Canos on the right hand side.
Mile Jedinak – 5/10
His best performance of the season so far – but he’s still not looking as good as he did last season. Quite neat in possession, but needs to find his feet and pick up the pace soon.
Glenn Whelan – 5/10
Didn’t really do a lot before coming off and gave the ball away just before the opener. His passing was good when he had the ball.
Albert Adomah – 6/10
Looked lively when he was on the pitch, but got a nasty kick early and was in pain. Subbed off, which was frustrating.
Robert Snodgrass – 5/10
Really needs to work on free-kicks, as almost all of his set-pieces hit the wall. Some nice touches on the ball and did play well early on.
Jack Grealish – 6/10
Started poorly, but got into the game later on and attacked well. Put in some nice crosses but nobody was there to get on the end of them.
Scott Hogan – 5/10
Worked hard but didn’t get much service and we aren’t playing to his strengths. Found it tough playing up front on his own. Didn’t really get any chances.
Josh Onomah – 6/10 (Adomah)
Scored Villa’s only goal with a bullet header which flew into the top corner. Was a bright spark and looked good throughout.
Keinan Davis – 5/10 (Whelan)
Got involved when he came on and made an impact. Held the ball up well, but missed a sitter from 10 yards out in the 90th minute which could have salvaged us a point. Recently been playing well, but needs to add goals to his game.
Ahmed Elmohamady – 4/10
Tried to make a difference on the attack but couldn’t get going. He did put a beautiful ball to the back post but Davis couldn’t get to it.
