As Robert Snodgrass enjoys a fine period of form that is allowing Villa fans to breathe easy, many are considering what the club’s next move is surrounding the Scottish winger.
The midfield maestro has managed 7 assists this season, according to the Aston Villa website, and 6 goals to match.
But what happens when all is said and done, and the curtain drops on this year’s Sky Bet Championship season?
Evidently, it goes without saying that Robert Snodgrass would be more likely to sign for us if we were to gain promotion back to the Premier League. But in the current climate, where Snodgrass is appreciated by the fans and adored by his team-mates, and even more importantly the owner of the club, would he stick around regardless?
According to Sports Interactive, the creators of hit series Football Manager – Villa have a £5 million buy clause at the end of the loan for Snodgrass, which would be a steal in his current form.
And whilst you might snigger at the Football Manager source, the game is now an integral part of how some clubs scout, providing data for hundreds of thousands of players across the globe. They pride themselves on being accurate, and it’s incredibly unlikely that they’d throw a clause in that didn’t exist.
If that’s the case, then it would be highly likely that Villa would be tying down Robert on a contract rather than a loan deal.
But if not, it remains to be seen on whether Snodgrass would be in Bruce’s plans come August.
Would he choose to move on, perhaps moving Adomah over to the right and placing youngster Andre Green on the left? Or would he stick with Premier League experience, strong character and someone he knows very well from his time as Hull City manager?
Only time will tell.
