Aston Villa have released a statement that John Terry will not be returning to the club.
Terry has undoubtedly turned the dressing room and spirits of the players around this season. While Terry suffered from a metatarsal injury for a chunk of the season, the effect he has had on Villa cannot be overvalued. The former England international was noted telling fellow Villa squad members to ‘stay in touch’ following the defeat to Fulham in the Sky Bet Championship Play-Off Final.
John Terry’s Departure Isn’t a Surprise
Now it seems that Aston Villa are now without a captain leading into what could be the most downtrodden transfer window for the club in some time. Terry was a ‘glue man’ of sort to the Villa team. He had such an effect on such a wide variety of players that his absence will definitely be felt throughout the club.
This news comes mere minutes after Aston Villa chairman Tony Xia released a statement pushing for Villa supporters to band together for a tough time ahead. There are a large number of Claret & Blue supporters that never fancied John Terry returning after bowing out of the Play-Off Final due his age and want to continue his coaching courses. John Terry will be in football for a long time, but sadly it looks likely it will not be in a capacity for Aston Villa.
John Terry featured 32 times for Aston Villa over the past campaign. In those 2,810 minutes on the pitch, Terry held a 85% passing accuracy with 198 clearances in his own defensive third of the pitch.
It would not be out of bounds to think that Terry could very well sign for another team before the end of the transfer window, with MLS and China being rumored destinations. It could also be very well possible he will bow out of the game for a short period to spend time with his family that means so much to him.
Regardless of what the future holds, Terry has gained a mammoth respect from Aston Villa supporters. He came to help Villa in our time of need and that kind of gesture will not be forgotten about any time soon.
