John McGinn has made his move to Aston Villa from Scottish side Hibernian.

The former Hibs midfielder scored six goals and assisted on eight last season. McGinn is known to be a tireless worker and is adept on the offensive side of the ball as he is defensively. While being an astute passer with a magical left-foot, McGinn also had 16 yellow cards in all competitions for Hibs last season. It looks as if the 23-year-old Scottish International does not putting a foot in or making a hard tackle when the situation shall arise.

There were a slew of other teams trying to land the services of McGinn other than Aston Villa. Celtic were also in the race for the young midfielder, but manager Brendan Rodgers exclaimed leading up to the transfer that there were things about Aston Villa that could not be hidden:

“We haven’t been able to complete a deal and of course when you don’t complete a deal on a player it always opens the door for other teams – a club like Aston Villa, who have clearly interest in him, who have a big history of their own, a great club with excellent facilities and now financial backing”, the Celtic manager said.

The signing of McGinn echos the ideology that Steve Bruce has said of the new ownership at Aston Villa. Nassef Shawiri and Wes Edens want a promising and young squad of players. That will undoubtedly take some time to materialise, but getting a talent like McGinn in the door definitively draws a line in the sand for the future plans of Aston Villa.
