Sky Sports have revealed that Aston Villa owners Nassef Sawiris and Wes Edens have explicitly told all suitors, including Tottenham, that Jack Grealish is not for sale. This comes after a £25million bid from Spurs was rejected by Villa, and renews hope that the golden boy will in fact be in a Villa shirt this season. You can never say never in football, and Tottenham may yet come back with an offer that the club simply cannot refuse, but as things stand, Grealish is said to be going nowhere.

This will come as a huge relief to Villa fans who despite FFP concerns, have been desperate to hang on to their star man and even serenaded him with chants of “Jack Grealish, we want you to stay” as he was subbed off against Hull. The decision to fend off all interest for Grealish is a real statement of intent from the new owners and emphasises his importance to the team. Steve Bruce stated he was irreplaceable and will no doubt be delighted by the decision from the men upstairs to keep hold of him despite offers of decent fees coming their way.

We all know Daniel Levy has a tendency to bid late for players so this message may not scare him away just yet, but if anyone is to even turn the new owners’ heads, the offer is going to have to be absolutely massive. It may be a gamble to hold onto Grealish and face the wrath of FFP in the future, but in the here and now, the statement that Grealish will not be sold is exactly what every Villa fan wanted to hear. He is one of our own, our main man, the heartbeat of everything we do, and is an irreplaceable player who loves the club as much as anyone. He is a special player and to keep him would be a massive success. And it looks like that is exactly what is happening.
