Aston Villa have hoodwinked fans, journalists and blogs by signing Swansea midfielder Tom Caroll on loan for the remainder of the season. It seems that Leroy Fer is staying at Swansea, or was never joining in the first place.

Aston Villa or Swansea City have hoodwinked us all as they announced a six month loan for 26-year-old Tom Caroll, when fans were expecting Netherlands international Leroy Fer to sign.
Whilst he still could be in with a shout of joining, it’s likely that Leroy Fer is staying at Swansea and midfielder Caroll will be playing in Claret and Blue for the remainder of the season.
We, and others jumped the gun by announcing that Leroy Fer had joined the club and we apologise – our sources had said that Leroy Fer had all but signed.
This could be another mysterious tactical transfer by Dean Smith and his transfer team, as Aston Villa were linked with a number of goalkeepers before Lovre Kalinic signed for the club.
Caroll is referred to as a creative deep-lying-midfielder, and should be the kind of player that Aston Villa were signing anyway.
The deal has an option to buy at the end of it, and some younger legs in the holding midfield roll may do the side the world of good.
Once again, we apologise for jumping the gun with the Fer transfer, and whilst it all could still happen – at the moment, Fer is staying at Swansea and Aston Villa have signed Tom Caroll, who rose through the Tottenham Hotspur academy, from Swansea instead.
