Football Insider are reporting that Aston Villa will be approaching newly promoted side Luton Town for fullback James Justin, regardless of the division they find themselves in next season.

Villa were linked with Justin in January as a potential replacement for Neil Taylor, who was not enjoying the form he has recently.

His promotion to the Sky Bet Championship with Luton has seen his stock rise considerably, and now Aston Villa may be facing competition from Leicester City and Stoke City for the defender’s signature.

The 21-year-old has been with Luton for four years, and has represented England at an U20 level.

The defender, who is a natural right-back but has been playing comfortably at the left-back position throughout the season – seeing him win the EFL Young Player of the Year award.

£7.5m for a young, English talent represents a decent bargain for whichever club decides to sign him – but the price could be a bridge too far for Villa if they fail to get promoted from the Sky Bet Championship next season.

It will be interesting to see what happens in regards to the transfer, but could be made increasingly likely by Monday evening.

  1. Pep has shown – with his signings two summers ago – how decent full backs can transform a team.
