Reports from Belgian outlet HLN are stating that Aston Villa are poised to break their transfer record on Brazilian striker Wesley Moraes, in a deal thought to be around £22,000,000.
This has been supported by Matt Maher of the Express and Star, who said he has been unable to confirm it, but believes the aforementioned reports to be true.
Moraes, who goes by the moniker Wesley – which is also displayed on the back of his shirts, has been playing with Jupiler Pro League side Club Brugge KV and is contracted to them until 2023.
Across all competition’s this season, Wesley has scored 17 goals and assisted 10, making him one of the most feared strikers in Belgium.
Other reports this summer had the striker linked to Newcastle United and Arsenal, but if these reports are to be believed, it seems Aston Villa may have pulled off a coup here.
The 22-year-old, who stands at six feet and three inches, has been compared to the likes of Ajax’s Kasper Dolberg and former Aston Villa loanee Tammy Abraham.
It’s unknown whether these reports are part of a social media frenzy – but we’ll be following this one closely and will report as soon as news breaks.
Update: Since publication, Italian website CalcioMercato have stated that a deal has concluded and that it’s all on Brugge’s end now. CalcioMercato cover Italian Football and are reporting due to Wesley’s links with Lazio.
Update: As per John Percy from The Telegraph, it looks like Wesley is signing as long as he passes his medical and receives a work-permit (which he should). Expected at Bodymoor Heath this weekend.
