Exciting youth talent Matija Sarkic, who spent much of the later half of the season as an understudy to Jed Steer due to Lovre Kalinic’s injury, is to join Scottish Premier League side Livingston on a season-long loan deal.
This is ideal for Sarkic, who has had some unfortunate loan spells at lower league English sides in the past, and the Montenegrin youth international will be expecting to get a number of games under his belt at his new club.
With a year left on his current contract, Matija will be looking to impress whilst in West Lothian to either secure a new contract at Aston Villa or elsewhere.
A graduate of Anderlecht’s academy, Sarkic joined Aston Villa in 2015 through Tim Sherwood.
The goalkeeper has had loans at Stratford Town, Wigan Athletic and Havant and Waterlooville, making a total of seven appearances across all three stints away from Aston Villa.
Sarkic, now twenty-one, was in fact born in Grimsby, despite his father being the Montenegrin ambassador for the European Union, and having represented Montenegro at Under 17, Under 19 and Under 21 level.
Best of luck on loan, Matija!
