Aston Villa have splashed the cash to break their club transfer record to bring in Wesley Moraes from Club Brugge and have now revealed the striker has gained a work permit.

The news will be welcomed with open arms and hearts by every Aston Villa supporter. Wesley or ‘Big Wes’ has been on the radar of a few teams and this is a seemingly great deal for Aston Villa in their first year returning to the top of English football. Seventeen goals and and ten assists in all competitions last season for Club Brugge will undoubtedly spark the imagination of his new supporters.

Wesley has the ability to be a very versatile striker as he looks menacing in almost every situation. At six-foot three inches tall, the Brazilian does not shy away from his natural athletic ability to nudge or power a ball into the back of the net. At the same time, he is also proficient in finding rebounds and pockets of space in close quarters more similar to a poacher-style striker. There have been direct comparisons between Wesley and Ajax wonderkid Kaspar Dolberg and even Tammy Abraham in the past, to paint a broader picture.

Capturing Wesley’s services is a big deal for Aston Villa and no mistake can be made about it. The price-tag of the player, mixed with his proven ability at such a young age makes this one of the more exciting transfers that Aston Villa supporters have seen in some time. There will be more signings in the coming weeks, but the ambition shown by Villa here is everything the supporters of the Midlands club are looking for.
