Aston Villa Women are enjoying an exceptional day, signing their second player in as many hours in the form of Leicester City Women striker Melissa Johnson.

Johnson is not the first player to move from Midlands club to Midlands club today, as Birmingham City Women midfielder Marisa Ewers put pen to paper earlier.

Johnson signed on a season long contract with Leicester, meaning she joins Gemma Davies’ squad on a free transfer.

The striker was Leicester City Women’s top scorer last season, netting seven goals in 23 appearances – whilst picking up two assists.

The 27-year-old is experienced in the league having spent time at Sheffield United Women – where Aston Villa Women start their season in the next campaign.

Welcome to the side, Melissa!
