Aston Villa have completed the signing of Brentford’s Ezri Konsa for an undisclosed fee believed to be around £12,000,000 – the player’s release clause.

Less than a year ago, Konsa was representing Charlton Athletic in League One but now can look forward to a fixture list comprising Manchester City, Manchester United, Arsenal and Chelsea.

In 42 games for Brentford this past season, Konsa averaged a pass success rate of 87.7% on 2,111 total passes. Konsa is known to have the tactical prowess and pace to break up opposition attacks as well. 50 successful tackles throughout his campaign for Brentford landed him third-most on the team.

His transfer from Charlton to Brentford in June 2018 saw Dean Smith sign the powerful centre-half and the Head Coach has moved for a reunion with the England U21 starlet – something Konsa is relishing.

“I’m looking forward to working with Dean and Richard again. I enjoyed it with them at Brentford. We had a really good relationship there. For me to be here and working with those guys is a good feeling. I am raring to go now.”

Dean Smith and the scouting system in place at Aston Villa seem to be doing some very fine work in the transfer market and the capture of Konsa solidifies that point. Villa supporters were told on multiple occasions that this specific coaching staff wants young, hungry and able players in an effort to play attractive football.

21-year-old Konsa was recently a part of the England squad at the recent European U21 Championships in Italy.  He was also a member of the England squad that won the U20 World Cup in 2017.

Konsa will join the squad for the first time when they fly out to the United States today.
