Aston Villa are poised to sign Manchester City midfielder Douglas Luiz in a deal thought to be worth around £15,000,000.

The Brazilian is thought to be flying out to join the squad in Minnesota ahead of a transfer that sees the defensive midfielder swap the Etihad for Villa Park.

The deal is thought to include a buy-back option for Manchester City, as Pep Guardiola rates Luiz incredibly highly and is disappointed in the fact that the midfielder has been unable to play for City due to work permit issues.

The 21-year-old, who is the Brazilian Under 23 captain, has spent the last two years at Girona in Spain and helped the side mastermind a 2-1 victory against Real Madrid last season.

It is thought that a move to Aston Villa will grant Luiz the points required for a work permit and the deal may act like a glorified loan deal should the midfielder impress at Villa Park – however there will surely be some kind of profit margin if Manchester City do choose to exercise this option.

The stats don’t show Douglas Luiz to be anything close to an emphatic defensive midfielder, more of a ball winning midfielder, but at such a young age his ability to train into a new position will be fast tracked.

According to The Telegraph, the player comes highly recommended by Jesus Garcia Pitarch, and could also have a hand in hastening the bedding in period for Wesley Moraes.

According to a number of sources, Luiz is preparing to fly out to join the club on their pre-season camp in Minnesota within the next 72 hours.
