Minnesota United’s goalkeeper Bobby Shuttleworth and forward Mason Toye spoke very highly of Aston Villa’s stars in a post-game press conference at Allianz Field following the Major League Soccer outfit’s 3-0 defeat to Aston Villa.
Shuttleworth, who was playing for the first time since Februarty after being sidelined by injury for the past six weeks and losing his place to Vito Mannone, performed well throughout the game but still conceded three goals to the visiting side.
When quizzed on Jack Grealish’s stunning opening goal, the ‘keeper replied:
“Yeah, he cut inside and I mean he does that for them a lot – it’s a natural movement for him.
It was a good finish, one of those around the post and close back in shots.
He knows what he’s doing – he’s scored a lot of goals like that.”
Minnesota’s forward Mason Toye, who could have scored on more than one occasion for The Loons, also spoke incredibly highly of his opposition in the game.
“Those guys were more athletic than I was, but it was cool to be able to test myself against guys that play in the Premier League – one of the best leagues in the world.
It was really fun. I almost got a chance but it got a little bit away from me.
They were bigger, faster, stronger, more clean, more clinical. That’s just the way the Premier League is, it’s the way leagues are when you go up a level.
I think we did pretty well, but it’s always tough against teams like that. I don’t think the result showed our performance.“
It’s interesting to hear the Minnesota United players gushing over Aston Villa’s players, and they are incredibly open about the difference in level between the two sides.
