Sky Sports are reporting that Egyptian star Trézéguet is set to become Aston Villa’s latest signing after passing his medical earlier today.
Trézéguet, real name Mahmoud Ahmed Ibrahim Hassan, has enjoyed a lengthy period outside of the top leagues in European football, playing for the likes of Anderlecht and Kasımpaşa in recent years.
We’ve admired Trézéguet for some time, and Football Manager players will be well aware of the winger from previous iterations of the game where the attacker can become a highly sought-after prospect.
Earlier this summer, we wrote that Aston Villa should sign the Egyptian at whatever asking price Kasımpaşa ask for him due to the exceptional statistics that the player has gathered over the past season – making him one of the intriguing players in African football currently.
His play seems to be very much in a similar mould to that of Anwar El Ghazi. Trézéguet attempted around 10 dribbles per 90 minutes last season, and successfully pulled of half of them, making him the third most successful dribbler in Europe, behind Saint-Maximin and Lionel Messi.
The winger has enjoyed time away at the African Cup of Nations this summer, where he made the Team of the Tournament, and played alongside Aston Villa’s Ahmed El Mohamady, who has reportedly been speaking to the 24-year-old starlet ahead of a move.
The fee is thought to be in the region of £8,500,000 with significant add-ons in the future. There was also significant interest in the player from Ligue 1 and Serie A, making this all the more of a coup for Aston Villa.
It’s likely that an official announcement will come from the club in the coming days.
