According to Leading Belgian news outlet HRH, who broke the news of Wesley Moraes’ move to Aston Villa, as well as reports on Bjorn Engels and his arrival, Marvelous Nakamba looks finally set to be joining Aston Villa.

After weeks of speculation, as well as the #FreeMarvelous movement on Twitter in support of the Zimbabwean midfielder’s strike at Club Brugge as he attempted to force a move away from the Jupiler League side, it seems that a deal has agreed for more than £11,000,000 to bring the midfielder to Villa Park.

The Defensive Midfielder, who will likely be a rotation option behind impending signing Douglas Luiz of Manchester City, struggled in this year’s African Cup of Nations in a poor Zimbabwe side – but has impressed for Club Brugge in both the League and European competitions last season. As always, there is always the chance of the Luiz deal not progressing and Nakamba being a secondary option.

With experience of playing alongside Wesley and Bjorn Engels already, the three will find it easier to embed themselves into the culture at Aston Villa and gain a footing within the Premier League.

Across 1575 minutes of football last term, Marvelous Nakamba offered a pass success rate which stood strong at 87.2% – and interestingly for a defensive midfielder, was adept at progressing the ball up the pitch rather than returning it to his defenders.

It’s an interesting signing – but one that a lot of fans, especially on Twitter, will be happy about.
