Aston Villa Women have re-signed former star Emma Follis after four years away from the club.

The midfielder, who joined Aston Villa Women at the age of nine – rose through the youth ranks and made over 80 appearances in claret and blue before leaving to join Reading in 2015.

This is somewhat of a coup for the club, signing a player with past experience of what it means to play for Aston Villa – but also a player who has experience of playing in the Women’s Super League during her time at Reading, and her time at Birmingham City Women – who she has joined from.

She has also played at the top level in the United States for Seattle Reign, which is bound to have had a positive impact on her career – and an experience that she may be able to bond with midfielder Sophie Haywood over.

During her time at Birmingham City Women Emma made 33 appearances and scored three times.

As a childhood Aston Villa fan, Follis jumped at the chance to be a part of the revolution at both Aston Villa sides this summer, stating that ‘good words have been filtering around Women’s football’ about the direction the club is going in.

This truly says something about the club’s changes, with Follis having the opportunity to remain in the Women’s Super League this season but deciding to return home.

The 27-year-old is the third player to have joined from rivals Birmingham City Women, who ply their trade in the league above Aston Villa Women this summer. She joins Marisa Ewers and Shania Hayles.
