England international goalkeeper Tom Heaton has been announced as an Aston Villa player this morning, ending his six year stay at Turf Moor.
The former Burnley stopper, 33, is fondly thought of at his former club and the reaction to his departure shows the level of the signing that Aston Villa have made.
In fact, we wrote yesterday about how Tom Heaton could be the signing of the summer for the club.
The goalkeeper made 19 appearances for the Clarets last season, and joins Aston Villa expecting to be the first choice goalkeeper for the season ahead.
As Hart had been a regular for the first half of the campaign in place of the injured Pope, Heaton returned from injury at the turn of the year to play a big part in helping the Clarets secure their Premier League status for a fourth season.
With four goalkeepers now within the senior set-up, it’s likely that Lovre Kalinic will be departing – be that on loan or permanently – before the end of the summer window. Jed Steer will be an adequate deputy to Heaton, and Orjan Nyland, who is still in the process of recovering from a horrific injury, is highly thought of by the goalkeeping staff at the club.
