Aston Villa have been drawn against Crew Alexandra in the Carabao Cup second round this evening, where they will face the League Two side at Gretsy Road.

The draw was made at Salford City’s stadium, Moor Lane.

Dean Smith’s side were one of 13 Premier League sides to join the tournament in the second round, with only clubs that are playing in Europe this year missing out – meaning Manchester City, Arsenal, Manchester United, Chelsea, Tottenham and Wolves will join in the third round.

With balls being plucked out by Gary Neville and Paul Robinson, Aston Villa were the number ‘one’ ball in the ‘North’ group.

The second round fixtures will take place in the week commencing the 26th of August – meaning it’s another fixture for fans to get their teeth into before the month draws to a close and International football creeps into our calendars.

Aston Villa could not be drawn against any of their Midland’s rivals in this round, with Coventry considered for the ‘South’ section, whilst Villa were considered for the ‘North’ section.

Fierce rivals Birmingham City were knocked out by Portsmouth last week in a 3-0 loss, whilst Walsall lost 3-2 to Crawley in a replay tonight, and West Bromwich Albion lost 2-1 to Milwall.
