The Aston Villa Women have announced via social media this afternoon that fullback Ella Franklin sustained a serious injury during the Durham game.

Aston Villa Women fullback Ella Franklin is set to miss a significant chunk of the season and will be out for the foreseeable future after sustaining a ‘serious’ injury against fellow promotion contenders Durham yesterday afternoon.
The fullback has impressed since her arrival from Leicester City Women in the summer and has truly made the right-back position her own, with both her and Asmita Ale gaining plaudits from fans, journalists and even their team-mate Emma Follis.
The extent of Franklin’s injury is yet to be revealed, but it is clear that Aston Villa Women will miss the explosive runs that the young defender makes down the right-hand side for some time.
For Gemma Davies, the question now arises as to who will replace the tenacious fullback – and this may mean an unfamiliar face being tested in that position against Liverpool in the Continental Cup next week.
Fellow former Leicester City player Charlotte Greengrass may get the nod to replace Franklin, but we could also see the likes of Jade Richards potentially return to the fold on a more secure basis whilst Ella recovers.
We wish Ella well in her recovery and hope that we’ll be seeing her back out at Boldmere St. Michaels before the end of the season.
