Aston Villa Women have announced the signing of 21-year-old full-back Caroline Siems, nicknamed Caro, from 1. FFC Turbine Potsdam, and have teased that there are more signings on the way with their preemptive tweet.
Siems, who plays at fullback, joins Davies’ side after aiding in Potsdam’s fourth-placed finish in the Women’s Bundesliga last season.
The German youngster is able to play on either side of the back four, allowing her to provide cover for the likes of Asmita Ale and Ella Franklin-Fraiture, who has been recovering from a major injury.
Siems has represented Germany at an international level for the under-15 side, under-17 side and the under-19 side, and will be pushing towards a call-up to the senior squad post-transfer.
Speaking on the new arrival, Gemma Davies said that Caro is an “exciting young player” and is an “attacking minded full-back.”
“She’s still only young and has a huge amount of potential, with the ability to play on both feet, and is comfortable in wide and narrower areas”
“She’ll bring an exciting dynamic to our attacks.”
Speaking to club media after signing, Caroline has said that joining the club is “amazing” and stated that she is excited to move to a new country.
“It’s amazing to be a part of the pride”
“I’m really excited about being able to play in a new country at my age, and I am so pleased to join such an exciting team.”
Siems is now the fifth new signing that has joined the already thirteen-strong squad this season, joining the likes of Anita Asante, Chloe Arthur, Lisa Weiß and Portuguese forward Diana Silva – and she’s happy to see the experienced names joining.
“Anita Asante and Lisa Weiß are obviously very experienced and all of the other signings are big names – I’m proud to be a part of that.”
