Newly promoted Leeds United would like to get their business done in the transfer market quickly and efficiently after a 16-year absence from the Premier League. According to The Sun, Leeds are prepared to launch a 15 million pound bid for Liverpool winger Harry Wilson.
Leeds are said to be in direct competition with Newcastle United & Aston Villa for the winger who had a breakthrough season in the Premier League in a struggling Bournemouth side.
Wilson spent the last two seasons on loan away from Merseyside, with his latest loan assignment ending in relegation with Bournemouth.
The 23-year-old checks more than a few boxes of what Aston Villa have been looking for since being promoted back into the Premier League last season. Wilson scored 7 goals in 31 appearances for the Cherries while maintaining a 76% passing accuracy. Wilson is known to be a creative outlet from the flanks and isn’t afraid to shoot from distance.
Two of his seven goals came from direct free-kicks and would only add to the possibilities of Dean Smith’s Aston Villa side on dead-ball opportunities. The age and skill range is right on par with what Dean Smith and Christian Purslow have said previously of bringing in younger and budding talent to Villa Park.
The wide-man scored 18 for Derby County in the 2018-2019 season while on loan and was thought to make a big push in or around the first team at Liverpool in the coming years. It seems the staying power of Mohammed Salah will push Wilson elsewhere, even though he still has three years left on his current Liverpool contract.
In the event that Villa bring in Wilson, he will bring competition to a position that has been a carousel of sorts this previous season. Trezeguet & Anwar El Ghazi seemed to rotate heavily on the right flank for Villa, with Jota being given limited opportunities as well.
It would be key to remember that this is a link that has often arisen in transfer window over the last few seasons, so there could be genuine interest from Aston Villa – it’s just whether they can secure his signature or not.
