As we’ve reached the end of the Aston Villa Women season and are close to the end of the men’s campaign, it’s time for awards season, as we at Under A Gaslit Lamp celebrate the best players, the biggest moments and more in the world of the Villans.

Women’s Goal of the Year: Mana Iwabuchi against Tottenham Hotspur

Our Women’s Goal of the Year award goes to none other than Mana Iwabuchi, who arrived at Bodymoor Heath in January.

The Japan international took minds and hearts at Aston Villa Women, impressing with her high-octane performances, her cheeky happy-go-lucky attitude and her desire to win.

Iwabuchi, who scored a number of important goals for the club this season, probably scored none more important than her rocket goal against Tottenham Hotspur.

In this game, Iwabuchi scored the one and only goal – and what a goal it was. The Women’s World Cup winner knocked the ball forward with her right, before readying herself on the same foot and firing towards the top-left corner where the ball eventually nestled.

An incredible goal and a deserved winner of our Aston Villa Women goal of the season.

Congratulations, Mana – and good luck, whatever next season may hold.
