Founded in July 2017 as ‘The Claret and View’, Under A Gaslit Lamp is an Aston Villa blog covering top quality opinion, as well as match day coverage and breaking news. 

We started as an opinion blog with a team of three and now find ourselves a strong team of ten as we head into our third year.

Our aim is to inform, entertain and provide a different outlook regarding the delights and issues that fans face – including views on players, current form and more.

We try to turn away from ‘click bait’ and have high editorial standards.

At Under A Gaslit Lamp, we’re not afraid of pushing boundaries – and started covering Aston Villa Women in 2018. Since then, we’ve become the go-to place for AVWFC coverage. We also started covering the youth sides more in 2019.

Alongside our written content, we produce annual fanzines, and two regular podcasts.

We were also nominated and shortlisted in the 2018 and 2019 ‘Football Blogging Awards’, as well as being picked in Discount Football Kits’ Most Influential Blogs of 2019.

Our work has been picked up and featured on BirminghamLive (formerly the Birmingham Mail), and we recorded a full-length interview with Birmingham’s Free Radio ahead of the 2017/18 Play-Off Final.
